I just upgraded my i7 920's mobo to an asus gene ii rampage. Im running 12 gigs 1600mhz pc12800 ram and liquid cooling and an ati 5850 card. Just need some expert advice on where to lead me to the right directions on how to OC the shit out of my comp without blowing it up.

.... why would you overclock something that won't have any issues running anything for like the next 2 years? It's only gonna strain the hardware more reducing its lifetime.

You generally only want to overclock something if you have something that will really make use of it. Overclocking immediately voids warranty on the product and even a small amount of overclocking will generally always lower lifetime.

If you're really set on doing it the best place to check is usually your motherboard manual as most motherboards now have overclock settings in the BIOS. Google like "overclock ati 5850" to look for how others have done it and success they have with it, should tell you what values to overclock the CPU/GPU to.

There's absolutely no reason to over clock that system at all.

Possibly multiboxing or doing lots of stuff while gaming? Some native 64bit applications? You can get some 32 bit applications that are "Large address aware" that might use a gig more than the maximum 2gigs of windows processes. Still feels a bit extreme, but he'll pretty much never need to page to disk. >_>

The world belongs to those who can look at the glass and say: "What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!"

Myranda (and Ely before him) have a very healthy, if not downright erotic, relationship with /gkick if he fails.
